This past weekend my wife, Lanette, shared what God has been doing in and through her this year. It was a challenging message for all who want to experience God's favor in their life. What follows are highlights from what she shared as well as a link to the full message.
FOCUS – Adjusting central concentration to a fixed point of attention, effort, activity and/or attraction.
FOCUS – Adjusting central concentration to a fixed point of attention, effort, activity and/or attraction.
Forward. Focus. Favor.
Focus is the key, being at the center of attention to this trilogy of
words to live by while forward and favor are the bookends that tie all three together.
Sometimes we allow too many
distractions to overtake and overwhelm our thoughts and time that crowd out God
never getting us anywhere with any kind of purpose. We must determine what we
are more focused on that crowds Him out, recognize and identify what it is in
order to shift our focus back on Him – when we do, that’s when we can hear from
Him and experience His peace.
“You will keep in perfect peace
all who trust in You, all whose thoughts
are fixed on You!” Isaiah 26:3-4
But often we will find that in
order to focus, we must start moving forward and stop looking back. To NOT look
back is to no longer let it control us. If we are to discover what God has for
us, we must let go of the things of the past. We will also need to remember
that we might have to choose to pick up and start again in order to continually
move forward.
“… I do not consider that I have
made it on my own. But one thing I do:
forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.
I press on toward the goal of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.
I press on toward the goal of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13-14
Once we realize that forward
motion requires forward focus we will also see that when we practice forward
focus it results in God’s favor.
“Forward motion requires forward focus resulting in God’s favor!”
We experience God’s favor in two ways: First in salvation through Christ and second when we are obedient. Following = favor. His favor becomes
evident through his fulfilled promises when we focus on and follow Him.
“If we never follow, if we never focus, we will never experience His favor.”
Always remember: we can never be
too focused on Him!
“For your steadfast love is
before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness.”
Psalms 26:3
