Center Point - Priorities

The center point of our solar system is the sun: everything rotates and revolves around it. And everything that rotates and revolves around the sun is influenced by it.

Just like our solar system, everyone has a center point: a point around which everything rotates and revolves. It could be some sort of belief system, some sort of moral code, your own selfish desires, the good of others, your family, your job/career, friends, hobby, etc. Whatever your center point is – it influences everything else in your life.

Sunday I made the case that Jesus doesn't want to be a priority of our life - he wants to be the center point in our life. That point which influences everything in our lives.

Jesus put it this way...

"Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing". John 15:4-5 (NIV1984)

Note the number of times the word "in" is used. When Jesus is just a priority it's "Jesus then..." When he's at the center it's "Jesus in..."

When Jesus is "in" all that we do, we will discover the life we were created to live. Without him we will never experience life to the fullest! Jesus wants to be, and should be, the center point of life.

Romans 11:36 says - "For from him and through him and to him are all things." (NIV1984)

Jesus is not only the source of life, he is also the sustainer of it!

"For in him we live and move and have our being..." Acts 17:28 (NIV1984)

Jesus does not want to be a priority of your life - he wants to be the center point in your life! So the real question is: what does it look like when Jesus is the center point? What does it look like when he influences our time, finances, goals, dreams and relationships? That's what we will begin to look at this week as we start with Time.

If you want to get a head start on this week, take some time to meditate on Psalm 90:1-12.
